- $325/night
- Yurt
Great For:

Overall Rating (4/5)

Location
The resort is quite far south; to get there it is about an hour’s drive past downtown Big Sur. Keep an eye out for the sign off the left of the highway (heading south); If you reach Gorda you have gone too far.
Being so far south definitely has its perks, the nearby parks and beaches, while just as stunning, are generally less crowded than those closer to the center of Big Sur.
Service
Although minimal, the service that was provided was good. Treebones is not advertised as a full-service resort but staff were always helpful and available when needed!
Room
We stayed in Oceanview Yurt #9, but really, even the partial-oceanview yurts looked fabulous! These $300 accommodations were on a whole ‘nother level than our quaint $70/night Calistoga yurt.
The only downside to sleeping in a tent is the lack of personal restrooms; each yurt does, however, come with a sink…
Amenities
Again, Treebones is not advertised to be a full service resort. You go there to experience nature and the surrounding beauty. The amenities therefore did not live up to other luxury resorts. For example, although the resort claims to have wifi in the Lodge, it is spotty at best; absolutely no service in the yurts.
As discussed earlier, the yurts do not have personal bathrooms. Instead, the resort features a shared restroom and shower facility at the main lodge. For those readers that are a bit more…ahem…uncomfortable with shared facilities, I made the critical discovery of a single occupancy restroom next to Yurt #15. I will accept a variety of forms of payment in return for this gem of knowledge 🙂
Other resort amenities included a pool/hot tub and an outdoor sushi bar. In terms of culinary offerings, Treebones scored well with their Oceanview Sushi Bar. Breakfast was “efficient”; our favorite part was the creative use of fettuccine noodles as biodegradable coffee stirrers. Gotta love California! The dinner was much better and incorporated vegetables grown on site in the resort’s garden. The simple green salad was one of the freshest I have ever tasted!
Value
Unlike other yurt options in Northern CA, this tent will cost you $300/night. Compared with other Big Sur options, however, that is actually a steal! Given the value, the secret is out… If you want an ocean view yurt for a weekend night, you will need to book several months in advance.
